Inserting images properly to your web page

After uploading your web site to a server, you may receive a message saying that your images are corrupted or cannot be found.  Even though your image displays property when editing it in Microsoft FrontPage, it may still have image errors after being uploaded.

Where is the problem?

When you insert images into a document in Microsoft FrontPage, you are allowed to use images that you have elsewhere on your hard drive, such as in your My Pictures folder.  The problem with this method is that when you upload your web folder to your server, all the pictures located elsewhere on your hard drive will not be uploaded on the rest of the site.  As a result, you get broken image errors.

How do I insert the images properly?

  1. Copy or save the image that you wish to insert into the images/ folder inside your web directory.  This folder is automatically created by FrontPage when you create a new web site.

  1. Under the Insert menu, choose Picture and then From File....
  2. Using the Picture dialog box that appears, locate the images/ directory in the browse window.  From here, select the picture that you wish to insert, and click the Insert button.

What if I want to fix an image that I've already inserted?

  1. Copy the image that you wish to correct into your images/ directory inside your web folder.
  2. Locate the image that you want to correct, and double-click on it.  The Picture Properties dialog box will appear.

  1. Click on the General tab.

  1. In the Picture text box, type "images/" followed by the name of the picture that you are correcting.  If you have correctly saved the picture in the images/ directory, this will fix the image errors that you have been seeing.
  2. Click OK to return to the editor, and save your changes.

In older versions of Microsoft FrontPage, the image will still appear broken as you edit the page.  However, they will appear properly after the page is uploaded.
