Publishing from Dreamweaver Updated!
The following instructions will show you how to transfer files from a Macromedia Dreamweaver site on your computer to your web space at
Minerva or CHET server using the publish feature within Macromedia Dreamweaver. It assumes that you already have
created your local web site. If not, refer to the
Creating a Web Site with Macromedia Dreamweaver tutorial.
Editing your Website settings
- Start Macromedia Dreamweaver using the icon in your Applications folder or on your Dock.
- Under the Site menu, choose Manage Sites.... A window with list of all existing sites will appear.
In the list of sites, find the site you want to publish and click on its title. Probably, there will be only one.
Click on the Edit... button to edit the site settings.
- On the first page of the wizard, you can type the name of your website (if you wish to change it) in the
text box under the question
What would you like to name your site?
Enter one of the following addresses in the What is the HTTP Address (URL) of your site? text box:
If you publish to Minerva, type "http://minerva.union.edu/username" OR
if you publish to CHET, type "http://www.union.edu/PUBLIC/YOUR_DEPT/username"
Substitute your username for "username" and abbreviation of your department for "YOUR_DEPT".
It is the address where your web pages will be available on internet.
Click the Next button once you have done this.
- Click the radio button next to No, I do not want to use a server technology. on the following screen, and click the Next button.

- On the third screen, click the radio button next to Edit local copies on my machine, then upload to server when ready.
Click the folder icon next to the Where on your computer do you want to store your files? checkbox,
and locate the folder to which you wish to save all your website files. If you don't select any, the Dreamweaver creates new one according to the name of your site.
Click the Next button when you are ready to continue.

- On the fourth screen there is the How do you connect to your remote server? drop-down menu.
If you publish to Minerva, select WebDAV and then follow steps a-e.
If you publish to CHET server, select FTP and then follow steps i-vi.
For Minerva server (WebDAV)

- Several inputs boxes appear. Type
https://webdav.union.edu/web/username
in the What is the URL of your WebDAV server? text box. Again, substitute your username for "username". Make sure
that you fill in https, not http.
- Type your e-mail username in the What is your WebDAV Login?
- Type your password in the What is your WebDAV Password? text box.
- Verify that all the information you have entered is correct, and click the Test Connection. If everything is correct, the
confirmation dialog box appear. Just click OK.
- Click Next button to start working on your website.
For CHET server (FTP)

- In the What is the hostname or FTP address of your Web server? text box, type the address of the CHET server:
chet.union.edu.
- Type /www/union/PUBLIC/YOUR_DEPT/username/sub_directory in the What folder on the server do you want to store your files in? text box.
Substitute abbreviation of your department for "YOUR_DEPT", your username for "username" and your particular
sub-directory for "sub_directory".
- Type your e-mail username in the What is your FTP Login? text box.
- Type your server password in the What is your FTP Password? text box.
- Verify that all the information you have entered is correct, and click the Test Connection. If everything is correct, the
confirmation dialog box appear. Just click OK.
- Click Next button to start working on your website.
Uploading the Website
If you have designed your website completely in Dreamweaver, it is possible to upload it to the server with Dreamweaver as well.
- Under the Window menu, click Files to see a list of all the files currently in use by your website.

- On the top of the Site window, click the Connect button to connect to the upload server.
- On the left side of the Site window, highlight all the files that you wish to upload. If this is your first time uploading to the server, you will want to highlight all the files.

- Once you have all the necessary files selected, click the Upload icon on the top of the window.

If, at any point, you need to retrieve a file that you have already uploaded, follow these same steps again, highlighting the files on the right side of the window and clicking the Download icon on the top of the window.
